How to Dress Baby for Photos

(outfit from The Baby Cubby)

The question I am asked the most is what to dress baby in for photos. I get it, it’s a lot to think about because what your baby wears greatly impacts the overall feel of the photos. As a minimalist photographer, I always recommend keeping your baby’s outfit simple, classic, and free of distractions.

I do have outfits available for use for ages 3-12 months, but if you’re wanting to find your own outfit or just have the inside scoop of the best minimalist style baby clothes, continue reading.

Here are some tips of the exact things I look for:

  1. Stick to solid colors

Solid colors over patterns or prints will minimize distractions and give photos a timeless feel, while highlighting your baby’s cutest features.

  2. Choose neutral tones

Neutral colors like whites, creams, beiges, and soft grays work best. These hues create a serene, cohesive look and compliments all skin tones.

  3. No logos or graphics

Steer clear of logos, characters, and text as this will create the photos to be the focal point rather than your baby.

  4. Embrace texture

Texture is what gives photos depth and interest while complimenting the minimalist aesthetic. My favorite ways to incorporate texture is with linen, muslin, and knit fabrics.

My favorite places to buy clothes that fit these guidelines:

Online Small Businesses:

Online Large Retailers:

Salt Lake City Locals for in-person shopping:

Following these guidelines will ensure that your photos have a minimalist feel and timeless quality. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or are ready to book your session!
